
The 6th National Council of Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP was held on March 19, 2016 at Suhrawardy Udyan.
BNP Councilors on Saturday, March 19, approved Begum Khaleda Zia and Mr. Tarique Rahman as chairperson and senior vice-chairman of the party respectively at the party’s sixth national council in Dhaka.
Earlier the two top leaders were elected unopposed.
During the council, BNP standing committee member and chief election commissioner Jamir Uddin Sircar placed the poll results before around 3,000 councilors of the party during the council session.
The councilor later endorsed both Begum Zia and Tarique Rahman unanimously.
Earlier of the council meeting, BNP policymakers, headed by Chairperson Khaleda Zia, have approved several proposals to amend the party’s constitution.
The party’s National Standing Committee cleared the proposals in a meeting presided over by Khaleda Thursday evening.
The amendments were approved by the sixth council.
